Burmese Boxing, also know as Lethwei, has been around for thousands of years and although there is no precise time of its development, it had been described in early documents of Burmese culture. While Burmese Boxing is similar to Muay Thai because of the use of arms, elbows, knees, and legs, Burmese Boxing adds another aspect to the fighting- head-butts. Therefore, while Muay Thai is described as being the science of eight limbs, Burmese Boxing would be characterized as being the science of nine limbs. Also, as opposed to Muay Thai, the fighters do not use any sort of protection; rather they wrap their hands in cloth or hemp for little support of the bones and maximum damage to the competitor.  Read more
