Training at Champions since he was in high school, boxing training has long been an integral part of Jacob Barats life. His time with the boxing team gave him a strong foundation physically, and mentally. Through the rigorous conditioning in the ring Jacob learned what it meant to push limits and to go past what your own perceived limitations are.
In 2020 Jacob paused his boxing training in order to pursue and complete a degree in computer science from the University of Maryland. During this time he began training in other martial arts: muay thai, brazilian jiu jitsu, and wrestling. The perspectives from the different fighting styles along with his higher education courses shaped his teaching and coaching approach. Using what he has learned from champions and his subsequent experiences he has cultivated his own unique style of boxing which he passes on to the next generation.
To Jacob, teaching boxing is more than learning a sport. It gives the learner an opportunity to develop themselves in all aspects of the sport.
In his fitness classes, he keeps things high energy, fun, and safe. His classes are structured to meet you at your current level of fitness while simultaneously pushing you to new standards.
When not working at Champions and training, Jacob is likely to be found taking hikes with his dog, listening to music, and enjoying life with his friends.
He hopes to see you at his next class!
